CLASS 1 – Please enter the yard through the car park near Chatburn Library and enter and exit through the Class 1 door.

The children will all be given a school book bag donated by The Friends of Chatburn School (FOCS)

They will all have their own plastic cup in the classroom and access to drinking water throughout the day. The cups are washed in the dishwasher every day. 

PE KITS:

On PE days the children will come to school in their PE kits; school sweatshirt and trainers instead of school uniform. They can wear black leggings/joggers rather than their shorts if it's cold.

Tiny Happy People : Helping you develop your child's communication skills. Explore the simple activities and play ideas and                                        find out about their amazing early development.

 When your child starts school, phonics becomes a big part of everyday life, transforming them from a non-reader to a child who is capable of reading fluently and hopefully spelling accurately by the end of Year 2. 

Phase 1

Early phonics teaching in nursery and at the start of Reception focuses on developing children’s listening skills.

In Phase 1 phonics, children are taught about:

• Environmental sounds
• Instrumental sounds
• Body percussion (e.g. clapping and stamping)
• Rhythm and rhyme
• Alliteration
• Voice sounds
• Oral blending and segmenting (e.g. hearing that d-o-g makes ‘dog’)

Typical activities for teaching Phase 1 phonics include 'listening' walks, playing and identifying instruments, action songs, learning rhymes and playing games like I Spy.

This phase is intended to develop children’s listening, vocabulary and speaking skills.
